"Could low-Income Dorms Lower The Crime & Poverty Rate in the City of Detroit?"

Our present project is creating low-income off-campus college dorm housing for Detroit enrolled college and vocational students with first preference to military-affiliated students. This multi-university integrated dorm housing can assist in bridging gaps between the higher educated professionals and creating future solidarity. We feel that students shouldn’t have to compromise safety with affordability, and we intend to provide both. Retaining Detroit enrolled college students as residents will also contribute to the already booming Detroit economy. Along with providing housing, The M.C.C will implement sequenced life skills and vocational training curriculums complete with seminars, workshops, and programs that will create a desired and productive outcome of complementing the student’s majors.

Recently the MCC has acquired a 21-unit 12,797 sq. ft. the apartment building that’s in need of a full rehab located at 1602 Lemay St., Detroit, MI 48214 to become our first low-income dorm facility. It is located within walking distance to East Jefferson Avenue and within 2 blocks from the Detroit River. It's also 4.7 miles from COBO Hall and the heart of Downtown Detroit. It’s even closer to the new and improved Belle Isle Island. Since East Jefferson Ave., is a major transit route, this means it’s easier to access the heart of the city.

To succeed in our mission, we need the community's help. You can get involved by supporting us in many ways by either signing our petition, becoming a member, donating or all three.
